Stillò l’anima in piantoThyrsis’s soul dripped away in tears,
Tirsi, quando partirewhen he had to leave Chloris,
Dovea da Clori, e ne volea morire;and he wished to die;
Ma la Ninfa pietosabut the tender Nymph gathered
Con la bocca amorosathat fluid with her amorous mouth
Quell’umor colse e poiand then gave it back to the Shepherd with her kisses;
Lo ridiede al Pastor coi baci suoi;
Onde, per gl’occh’uscita,thus, his life, which had left through his eyes,
Rientrò per le labra in lui la vita.re-entered through the lips.
